It’s Garage Sale Season! Exercise equipment, an old set of golf clubs, collectibles, and clothes, this time of year, you can see all those items and more at your neighborhood garage sale. Garage sales are a nice way to get a little extra cash in your pocket this time of year, but it’s important to make sure your sales are limited, so as not to create a nuisance. Our Code allows one sale in a calendar year that is no longer than four days in duration.
Options for advertising your sale include TV, radio, newspaper, or lawn signs on your property. Sales signs are not allowed to be installed in the right-of-way, which includes the landscape strip between the sidewalk and curb, street and traffic sign poles and utility poles. You may have a total of 12 square feet of lawn signs and each lawn sign may not exceed 3 square feet in area and 60 inches in height. All posted signs must be removed within 3 days of the sale. No permit or notice to the city is required to hold a garage sale on your property.
If you have any questions about holding a garage sale on your property, please contact Jon Berlin, Code Compliance Officer, at 503-674-6205 or Berlinj@ci.fairview.or.us.
