The purpose of the alarm ordinance is to encourage residents and businesses with alarm systems to assume responsibility for maintaining the mechanical reliability and proper use of alarm systems to minimize unnecessary police emergency responses to false alarms. Please view the Fairview Police Alarm Program brochure for additional details about having an alarm system in the city limits. If your would like to install an alarm system please fill out the Alarm User Permit Application form.

  • The fee is $25 per year for each permit.
    • Audible burglary and silent robbery system features should each have their own permit.
  • Residents who are 62 years of age or older still need to register their alarm systems with the Fairview Police Department, but will not be charged a fee for their permits. Proof of age is required upon submitting your application.
  • Bills that are 30 days past due will be assessed a $25 late fee.
  • Residents or businesses who use an alarm system and fail to obtain or maintain an alarm permit with the Fairview Police Department will be subject to prosecution in Fairview Municipal Court and a fine up to $500 per violation.

False Alarm Fines
  • First false alarm: No fee
  • Second false alarm: $75
  • Third false alarm: $100
  • Fourth false alarm: $200
  • Fifth or subsequent false alarm: $300

These fees are in addition to any annual permit fees and apply to each false alarm incident, regardless of frequency.
