Winter is Coming! A Note From Chief Smith

It should come as no surprise that each winter we here in Fairview have the very real possibility to experience several days a year of snow and icy conditions.  Now is the time to prepare yourself, you vehicle and your household for days of cold weather.
  • Be sure to stock up on supplies that you may need such as non-perishable foods, medications, baby supplies, pet supplies, or other items you may need but may not be able to travel safely to your local store to buy.
  • Make sure you have tools and/or supplies on hand to remove unsafe ice or snow from your sidewalks/walkways.
  • Create a kit for your car that includes some non-perishable food, a light source, a heat source (such as a fold-up space blanket), portable cell phone charger, jumper cables, road flares, first aid kit, and anything else you might need should you find yourself out on the road for an extended period of time when the ice storm hits (remember the big one two winters ago?).
  • Please monitor media sources and MCSO’s information platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram) for latest weather warnings and road restrictions. If an order requiring traction tires or chains goes into effect, please heed those warnings and do not become a victim to the environment.
As you prepare your vehicle and household for the winter, do not forget to check in with your neighbors and make that connection to ensure that you can be of help if or when the time comes; here in Fairview, we should watch out for and help take care of one another. Also, use this time to take stock to see if you and your household are prepared for other types of emergencies. And remember, stay safe out there!  Fairview Chief of Police Harry Smith
